Child Support
Temporary and Permanent Child Support is a financial obligation for which all parents are responsible. Child Support is determined by both parents’ gross monthly incomes, with credits given for support a parent may pay for other children, credits given for health insurance premiums a parent pays for the benefit of the children, work-related child care costs, and extraordinary expenses, such as private school tuition or unusual health conditions. North Carolina’s legislature has established guideline child support figures for parties based upon the parties’ combined monthly incomes and the number of children for which support will be paid. The North Carolina Child Support Guidelines are used in the majority of the child support cases unless your income levels rise to the level whereby you would be considered “off the guidelines”. In addition, it is important to know that there are ways to adjust a child support obligation based on the reasonable needs of the respective children or based on the parents’ economic situations. This is decided on a case by case basis, as is every case in Family Law. Sodoma Law can help you determine the best course of action for you and your family.
