vCard for Amanda Bruton vCard

York County, SC – Family Law Attorney

Practicing Family Law with integrity and positivity while putting my client’s needs first is my commitment every single day. Even as a little girl growing up in Greer, SC, I always knew that one day I wanted to help people – even if I didn’t know then what form that help would take.

As we all know though, life happens. And, while dreams and goals remain the same – the path we may have envisioned changes. After graduating from University of South Carolina with a degree in B.A. in Political Science I became a Social Worker. Working with the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) was a valuable experience that brought me to the realization that there is more than one way to assist families in crisis. When I decided to enroll in law school at the University of South Carolina it was with a renewed sense of purpose. I knew that I wanted to help families through all of their transitions – whether it was expanding their families, bringing new families together, or facilitating a peaceful exit plan.

After taking the South Carolina and Georgia state bar exams, , I immersed myself in volunteering with the Atlanta Legal Aid Society. The goal of the Society is to help low-income people meet basic needs through free civil legal services. I was able to be a part of their Family Law Clinic where I assisted and advised pro se clients with their divorce issues. This position reinforced my passion for the practice of Family Law and my compassion for the community I served.

My time as a social worker made me realize that another way I could serve my community was by defending people against claims of abuse and neglect, and life came full circle when I accepted a position with the South Carolina Department of Social Services for York and Union Counties – this time as a lawyer. My time spent first as a social worker, and then as an attorney, gives me unique insight into what families need, and deserve, when they are navigating an often-complicated legal landscape. It has given me the ability to help families identify which resources will work for them, and which ones will not, in each situation. As an attorney for SCDSS, I saw first-hand how important it is for people to be fully aware of all their options when faced with these issues, and I am humbled to be able to be an advocate for each family that passes through my doors.

Now, as a private practice Family Law Attorney, in addition to working diligently for clients in issues involving separation, equitable apportionment, support, custody and even domestic violence, I am driven by my experiences that allow me to have extraordinary compassion and delicacy. I understand how critical it is for a client to be educated on all sides of the law, particularly when children are involved and there are allegations that involve the Department of Social Services. When a client comes through our door at Sodoma Law York, they are often facing the most challenging period of their life. I want each to know that I will be a tenacious advocate for them, and that I will help them explore all the ways their case can be handled – both inside and outside the courtroom.

No matter how life has happened for you, one thing is for certain – we both have landed here together. And together, we will work side-by-side with the fearless team at Sodoma Law York to be the advocates you need, and deserve.
