A Sodoma Law attorney, recently completed the Mecklenburg County Domestic Violence Speakers Bureau training. The Domestic Violence Speakers Bureau works to educate the community on the issue of domestic violence and provide valuable resources to empower community members. In 2015 in Mecklenburg County 286 rapes were reported and CMPD responded to more than 36,000 domestic violence related calls. It is estimated that 157,193 adults in North Carolina are victims of domestic violence every year, and costs related to domestic violence have risen to approximately $300 million a year.

Mecklenburg County Support ServicesBefore joining the team at Sodoma Law Amanda worked with Legal-Aid of North Carolina where she found herself helping survivors of domestic violence. Her passion for assisting victims of abuse has only grown since then.  Here is what she had to say about her experience: “I am so excited to be involved with the Domestic Violence Speakers Bureau! This training gave me the chance to meet survivors of domestic violence who have overcome the cycle of abuse, regained control of their lives, and are now thriving.
